Curriculum Information & Curriculum Materials

Curriculum InformationThe Bridge has a significant challenge when it comes to planning an appropriate curriculum to meet the needs of all students. Our pupils' ability ranges from p scale 1 to Level 4 of the National Curriculum. The pupils also need different approaches to the curriculum on offer.

"Children need different teaching strategies. We adjust these to each individual child. This school is great at flexibility - often the children are accessing the curriculum at different levels."

"We teach things that you wouldn't normally expect to teach, like social skills. We teach children to manage themselves in life whilst having fun."

Many pupils with profound and multiple learning difficulties benefit from a curriculum designed specifically to meet their needs with opportunities to build physiotherapy into their individual programs.

Many pupils with severe learning difficulties need a stimulating curriculum which promotes their self confidence and independence skills.

"It is up to us to provide the children with the tools to cope with the world."

Many pupils with autistic spectrum disorders need a broad curriculum which focuses on addressing their specific areas of difficulty as well as encouraging their strengths.

"They are children first. The disability is later"

"All make progress, just at different rates"

We have developed a range of curricular so that we can we can provide for the wide range of pupils that attend the school. However in all cases the curriculum is delivered in a way that addresses the learning needs of each individual. We personalise the learning experiences which each of our pupils receives.

"My son loved the curriculum which was really relevant to his needs"

The Bridge SchoolWe have some students with autistic spectrum disorders who are learning at a level equivalent to their mainstream peers. In these cases we deliver a mainstream curriculum, which encourages inclusion opportunities. We have successfully reintegrated some pupils into mainstream schools and have class bases in both a mainstream primary and secondary school.

We also have a few pupils whose needs dictate a totally individualised curriculum.

We accommodate these needs.

"No matter how challenging the children are, you have to think about what you can do to make a difference. You can always do something"

"My daughter attended the school for many years from the age of 2 years to 19 years old. Her needs became increasingly complex as she grew older but the school was always able to adapt to her daily needs."
